Report from AFL-CIO Convention | National Catholic Reporter by MSW.  MGB: The AFL-CIO has become a key part of the Democratic Party in much the same way that the National Right to Life Committee has become the religious wing of the Republican Party.  With the NEA as part of the Democratic coalition you tend to get a very vocal pro-choice set of convention delegates - as NEA members tend to gravitate to service at the national nominating convention.  They also kill any concept of school choice - although of late they have gone along with Catholic Charter Schools in DC. The sad fact is that the Catholic Church has a good record in advocating for union rights - just as long as it is not Catholic organizations that are being unionized - and that is a scandal.
