Dionne on Syria | National Catholic Reporter MSW.  MGB: The underlying question is whether we wish to continue the Pax Americana.  We can certainly end it, but if we do we no longer need a Navy that patrols the entire planet or an army or air force that can project themselves everywhere.  Of course to replace the Pax Americana, someone else would have to step up and they would still require funding - much of which would take the form of debt financing that currently gotes to the US.
