Ideology & Issue Role Reversal by MSW. MGB: This nation has always had a debate between the owners and the owned, whether it be capitalism or slavery where the issue took place. Often, capitalism supported direct southern slavery. It was only when it could not that the civil war became possible. Likewise, tax policy has gotten so extreme - or rather enough people have noticed that it has, that some kind of ideological correction is necessary. Of course, the powers that be on the left want the correction to be as small as possible, since both parties are bought and paid for. The climate of extremism on the right could upend the whole coalition by self-immolating, which could allow the emergence of a new major party that does not buy the duopoly - something that might actually bring about change and a more "Catholic" economics. Of course, I don't expect the media to cover this until they have to, because they are part of the problem. Apparently, one must be funded to get noticed. As for subsidiarity, any time it is mentioned it must be pointed out that without solidarity, it is simply a buzzword for libertarians trying to sound Catholic.
The White House needs to get off the Medicare issue - since I suspect the GOP only brings it up to inoculate itself to make Ryan palatable. It needs to focus on Medicaid instead, especially in Florida. Indeed, it should be bold and propose that Medicaid for long term care be turned into a separate program and entirely federalized. This would offer such a stark contrast to Ryan's block granting scheme that even Florida Republicans will be voting for Obama. Since nursing home chains are often interstate, it even meets the requirements of subsidiarity.
