HHS Mandate (Mostly) Takes Effect
HHS Mandate (Mostly) Takes Effect by MSW. MGB: This article is misleading off the bat, because it does not state that the lawsuits are in the process of being dismissed because they will not be ripe for litigation until the rules are finalized. This indicates to anyone looking close enough to the conclusion that the whole publicity effort for "religious liberty" is entirely electoral and an example of why the bishops need to sever ties with the National Right to Life Committee -which is essentially the religious wing of the Republican Party. Until they do, everything they say on the topic is suspect. As for negotiations happening quickly, given what I just said, I suspect the bishops are rooting for Romney and won't negotiate in good faith until the inevitable re-election of the President. This issue will have no impact on that result, as the bishops have played it badly in a baldly partisan manner. They can and are being ignored. This is good, because they are wrong. Luckily, Obama will be around longer in his presidency than Dolan will be in his.
