Dems For Life: The Politics by MSW. MGB: I hope this event gets noticed and that the role of the Susan B. Anthony fund in removing pro-life Democrats from office in swing districts in the last cycle is highlighted. Sadly, the abortion issue seems to be all about politics and not about solutions. If this gathering can both point that out and commit to real solutions - which would be inconvenient for the GOP who are advantaged by the status quo, than it might do some good. This would be especially the case if they can convince the USCCB and some of the Catholic press that they are being used on this issue for GOP political purposes.
As for marriage, doctrine was actually evolving before the election of Blessed John Paul II and his direction to now Pope Benedict to stop the road to progress. If gays and lesbians are wonderfully made rather than disordered and all people have a right to a sexual existence because sexuality is a God given thing - then the next obvious conclusion is that gay marriage is much more preferable than keeping all gay sexuality in the realm of the sinful. This is the case both before the law (as the spouses of gay children should have the same rights in extremis as the spouses of heterosexual children vis-a-vis the family of origin of any child when the child cannot speak for themselves - for they too are of one flesh) and within the Church - who could help families in these situations rather than trying for a very much unneeded deathbed confession for something that really is not a sin for them.
