The Rio Games come to a close | National Catholic Reporter by MSW. MGB: Above all, I found the games powerful and touching - not in the aggregate but in the stories of the individual athletes.
Lochte was out of line, but in America rent a cops don't usually carry guns at gas stations and shaking down tourists is not considered public service.
I see no reason to even mention the Donald in relation to the games. That is overthinking it. As for abortion females - Hillary went to China as first lady to condemn the practice. Good for her.
Opening and closing music should be a bit "marchy" although I have loved Bosa Nova since I was a child. I had forgotten it existed. Anyone have any CD recommendations? (yes, I am a dinosaur). As for the Catholicism of the people - and any indigenous nature to it, I don't think that was covered - again - overthinking. What I do know is that I love the statue of Christ the Redeemer - even though the constant using it in intro shots seems to be commercializing God for network use.
The poverty of Rio was a story covered. It is a hard problem and it will take major change, somewhat socialistic actually, to improve it. I am sure that there is genius in the slums that is not being utilized. A revolution in worker-ownership would have an interest in finding it and redirecting it from crime.
These games were a tonic for the soul. I have been sick of heart the last few weeks and these games have helped take my mind off of it. Viva, Rio!
