Should the bishops denounce Trump? | National Catholic Reporter

Should the bishops denounce Trump? | National Catholic Reporter by MSW. MGB: The question is not whether the Church is politicized but rather how politicized it is.That it does not speak as forcefully on immigration as it should is a measure of how much it's ties to the pro-life movement and the Republican Party mean to many of the bishops.Sadly, it's hard to minimize the abortion issue enough.  It is a nightmare to visualize the Court overturning Roe and sending the matter to the states, because it would be precidential in sending gay marriage, sodomy itself, birth control and racial discrimination against Latinos back to the states - i.e., it can't happen and it won't happen. While Congress could act, the likely action would be to codify the status quo - which most would see as ending the issue - so the pro-life movement would never go along.  Regretably, Catholic politicians like Tim Kaine, Joe Biden and Mario Cuomo have not taken the lead in explaining the hopelessness of the pro-lfe cause to the bishops, so they have only their own emotionalism as their guide.  Hopefully the abomination that is Donald Trump may get them to re-examine their stance on the political issue of abortion and their de facto linkage to the GOP and all their allies, including the anit-immigrants.
