Pope Francis's remarkable video message to Bogota: Wow! | National Catholic Reporter
Pope Francis's remarkable video message to Bogota: Wow! | National Catholic Reporter by MSW. MGB: Sometimes the merciful act is to tell someone they did not sin after all. The Lord condemned the Temple priests for heaping rules onto the people. Some bishops have done the same thing - especially regarding sex. It clouds what is really to be avoided vs. what is unhealthy. Also, on marriages ending, sometimes one spouse is really wrong without the marriage being invalid and the merciful thing is to recognize it. Sadly, this does involve changingn the rules in an unequivocal fashion. Mercy cannot be finessed.

Let me put it this way. The Church has been wrong on some doctrinal matters, so it must seek mercy from us and sin no more - including about who it ordains. It needs to take the beam from its eye before it examines the speck in mine.
