Archbishop Chaput's Regrettable Column | National Catholic Reporter by MSW. MGB: Luckily, Citizen Chaput's opinions are only hisown, because they are faulty. This year any objective comparison results in a slam dunk for Clinton-Kaine, but the Republican Chaput is unable to say it - or indeed go beyond the FoxNews talking points. Frankly, Citizen Chaput shows why local diocese should elect their bishops democratically - although Biden would beat Chaput by a mile. So would Kaine. I am not averse to a diocese propounding a political position - but it must be the position of the diocese, not the bishop. Even and especially on the political (not the moral) question of abortion. On the moral question, we of course must listen to Archbishop Chaput. On the political question - how to deal with the issue in society - his position is not privileged and contains no political authority unless he actually asked a wide range of the faithful of his flock what they want him to say. I suspect many would say that the pro-life movement has become a con-job and that they are tired of their Archbishop being one of the principle con-men.
I suspect his flock will be mostly for Clinton.
