Trump, like any plutocrat, surrounds himself with people who are personally loyal to him above all else - even when he is being wrong.
At First Things, I almost got lost over the editor's clumsy use of the possessive. I will agree that the Kaine/Biden/Cuomo defense of abortion rights is weak - but it should have nothing to do with their personal loyalty to the Church. Indeed, I would consider it an act of personal loyalty to explain to the Church why they are wrong on, not abortion, but how we treat abortion in society and the impossibility of regulating it in the first trimester. They should also note how craven the pro-life movement is - that it could make a deal on second trimester abortions tomorrow - but doing so would ruin their donor model.
