MGB: Consumerism is what keeps people from revolting in a variety of areas, from race to workplace control.  If people have the stuff they need, they are less likely to revolt unless the people they are revolting against are aggressive in their oppression.



The sad thing for the Pope and Abp. Cupich is that people really do want an explanation in rules and many want the rules to change.  We cannot soft pedal that - its not fair to either the reformers or the reactionaries.



After the laugh factor is over, a cake is a cake.  Of course, some people are allowed to make joke transgender cakes.  If they became the rage at Liberty University, trans people might be offended.  The cake is a reflection of our tribes.



I suspect that the Catholic vote approaches the average.  Either we are the biggest group or the group whose religious attitudes are not driving our voting, although I would like to hope that we are decent enough people to reject Trump with full throat.
