MGB: More important than the situation before God is the situation with both the former and current spouses.  Are there bad behaviors in the first marriage that were taken into the second?  Is their violence, drunkenness or infidelity?  Have these faults been dealt with?  Was there simply abandonment or was the other spouse at fault?  Who needs to forgive whom to move on or has the right to withhold forgiveness?  Is the former spouse still a friend who was not a good marriage partner for that person?  Did the former spouse go to the second wedding?  If so, the Church has no business judging or even commenting on how things worked out.  We have had quite enough of the Church as a surrogate for forgiveness that should have been granted face to face with another person.
