Bp Blaire Breaks the Dam by MSW. MGB: I still find it rather odd that the bishops are seeking to limit the conscience rights of their employees to the health care that they work for under the color of freedom of conscience. It is not as if this issue comes down from the White House or even HHS. They are enforcing law and acting on the advice of the Institutes of Medicine. The bishops should not be second guessing doctors on this issue.

Finally, a key issue is whether chemical birth control really is abortive in nature. If the fact that prior to gastrulation the maternal DNA is absolutely controling means that we can infer that the soul of the unfertilized egg (which is the mother's) is still the life force of the blastocyst (which is absolutely the case) then the only conscience rights the Church is fighting for is to have an opinion on the sexual morality of their employees. That should be out of bounds in the employment contract.
