If Milley broke democratic norms – even for the greater good – he must face the music
The acting SECDEF was a Trump flunkies who gave orders neutering the DC National Guard. Millet is a hero. Pence had three constitutional duties: succeed the President, preside over the Senate and convene the Cabinet to remove Trump. He failed in his duties. Milley should get a fifth star.
The goal of the insurrection was to have a sham Congress declare Trump had won. At that moment, the only constitutional response would have been noncompliance and the forcible detention of Trump. Luckily, Trump did not succeed. In the end, he could not have. Every military member and civil servant puts their oath above the President. They won't follow an unlawful order, especially not en masse.
The people who should have acted were afraid of Trump's army of voters who think that just one more justice will end abortion (MSW's tribe). Donors are now against Trump and there are not enough racists to shift a primary in most states or districts. That, and Trump's Super PAC was built with Russian seed money. Anyone who took it did not want this known under another President. In for a penny...
