Biden's immigration policy needs reboot — and a moral vision. Pope Francis can help
The President's job is to enforce the law and suggest amendment. Because Congress has been very specific in this area, his authority to make independent policy is limited. The bishops should consider support for Biden's immigration reforms must-pass pro-life legislation (as they should on the child tax credit and childcare provisions of the budget). The Vatican needs to call the bishops who object, not the President. The one thing Biden can do about Haiti is to reauthorize disaster visas, but at some point Haitians need to settle their own civil government issues. We cannot do it for them, or for the Russian and Chinese people either. Freedom is never granted, it must be won.
