Pence played to GOP base; Harris went for the center in VP debate
Thank you for watching this. I took a look 30 minutes in and, after the first response, knew that Pence was doing the indefensible and impossible, justifying the accomplishments of Trump. The fly did a better job.
The killer questions were not asked of Pence: Do you truly believe that the President is sane, which many former officials and doctors have doubted? Why have you not convened the Cabinet and invoked the 25th Amendment? Have you done it in secret? Are you functioning as shadow President? On abortion, do you favor treating abortion as infanticide, with all that implies for investigating all pregnancy losses? (Follow-up by opponent should explain why that has to be the case).
Trump is declining quickly. Pence may be the President and nominee before the month is out, so the killer questions may be useful after all.
Coronavirus is not a Trump mistake, aside from the fact that the White House staff is more concerned with placating Trump than overseeing the government. The CDC is focusing on masks rather than why the spread is out of control (hint: the epidemic of seasonal allergies are mostly COVID-19) If Trump is not in charge, the constitutional chain of command is broken, the very definition of a constitutional crisis. Trump is right about one thing - the virus will disappear - but only after everyone has been exposed. Managing it will not be an issue in January.
